XML style guidelines
OUP XML must follow stylistic conventions that include no leading whitespace (no pretty printing) and placing the punctuation outside semantic elements.
OUP XML must follow stylistic conventions that include no leading whitespace (no pretty printing) and placing the punctuation outside semantic elements.
Place in-line tags directly against the content they are tagging, with spaces, brackets, and other punctuation outside the tag. Do not capture line-break hyphens in words.
Do not pretty print XML (also known as format and indent) because this can result in unwanted white space characters appearing (line break and tab characters).
Processing instructions (PI) for page breaks (including endpapers) must be a descendant of specific elements that include p and bibItem.
Use ISO 8601 dates in OUP XML captures.
Capture multi-column text as a single flow, as though it were a standard page of text.
