On occasion OUP commissions a translation of part of the judgment. This is often after the original headnote and judgment has been converted to XML.
You receive the translation as a MS Word document with the original text highlighted in yellow and the translated text following immediately and highlighted in blue.
Inside the judgmentGrp block, capture the partial translation text as a new judgment element with a type attribute whose value is "partialTrans" or "partialOfficialTrans".
Use the xml:lang attribute to specify the language of the partially translated judgment element. Its value is the three-letter ISO code (ISO 639-2) for the language.
Where the original language judgment is in a non-roman script and is not captured as XML, the structure of a partial translation differs slightly.
Example to show the correct mark-up for paragraphs where the title of a div2 element is translated, but not all of its children.
Where an xref links from the headnote to the decision, amend the cross-reference to link to the translated Judgment and not to the original text.
Where a paragraph is truncated with and ellipsis [...] in the translation, capture the truncated partial translation in the same way as other partial translations.
