Editorial or authentic content

OSEO needs to distinguish between authentic and editorial content.

The type of content is defined by the XML structure using the following rules:

  • Any content within the work element is considered authentic. This includes content in workFrontMatter or workEndMatter elements.
  • Any content in an element with a role to indicate it is a work is considered authentic.
  • Content in frontMatter and endMatter elements are considered editorial.
  • AppCrit and editorialComment notes are considered editorial.
  • Footnotes or endnotes inherit authentic or editorial from the location of the xref element to the note.
  • Content in a floatGroup element inherit authentic or editorial from the location of the processing instruction used to insert the floating element into the content.

The manifest document will indicate if any special occurrences of content type exist. Where indicated, apply role="authentic" or role="editorial" to the relevant element to override the above list of rules.

Apply the role at the highest level appropriate (to the level of chunk).
Child elements will inherit the role.

Within the pages of a book, where editorial text appears adjacent to authentic, capture the content in a divN element, with different child divN+1 elements for the authentic and editorial text.
