What to capture

Capture the title and full text of the document together with any introductory text specific to the document, footnotes, appendices, and schedules.

Where source documents contain typecodes, use these to decide the structure of the resulting XML.

Use a headnote document to capture legal metadata if one is provided along with the source manuscript as a supplementary document. The exact format and contents of a headnote will vary between products and datamodels.

Some legal source documents contain other material. Do not capture this other material if it is not part of the specified instrument. Some of this material corresponds to the metadata supplied separately in the Headnote document.

Elements should not normally be empty. If a template field is blank or contains "N/A", omit the corresponding element.

Where it is not clear what to capture, ask your contact at OUP for clarification.

  1. Headnotes

    For some publications OUP create a headnote document that corresponds with the source document and provides a summary, metadata, and editorial comments to add to the final XML.

  2. Skeleton headnotes

    Where a headnote is submitted for capture as a skeleton headnote, without Held, Facts, or Analysis sections included, set the attribute versionNum="0". For skeleton headnotes the Reporter and Report date fields are often blank.

  3. Award, Decision or Judgment

    Awards, decisions or judgments (the decision) include an associated headnote document and contain information that you do not capture.
