When to use multiple tgroups
You can break a table into multiple tgroup groups.
|
TCH1 |
Table column head |
|
TCH2 |
Sub-table column head |
|
TSH |
Table spanner head |
Where typecodes TCH1, TCH2, or TSH have been used multiple times within a single table, these items represent multiple thead elements within a table, and therefore multiple tgroup elements are needed within a single table.
Where typecodes are not indicated break tables into multiple tgroups in any of the following situations:
- each chunk of the table has its own heading (not just bold text), and the style of the heading is consistent throughout the table (see example)
- the number of columns changes from chunk to chunk (see example)
- the column widths in adjacent chunks changes. (see example)
In all other cases use a single tgroup. This example shows text that is presented in bold but is not a heading.
