Questions and answers

In OUP books, questions and their answers generally divide into four types: Non-multiple choice questions, Single Best Answer (SBAs), True or False Multiple Choice Questions (TFMCQs), and Extended Matching Questions (EMQs).

Questions and their answers are typically found:

Together, at the end of each chapter.
Together, in an appendix or other end matter.
Separated, with questions and answers in alternating chapters.
Separated, with the questions at the end of each chapter, and all the answers at the end.
In entire books devoted solely to questions and answers.

Identify the form that the questions and answers take. If you find any questions which do not conform to one of these types, ask your OUP contact for guidance.

Capturing non-multiple-choice questions
Non-multiple-choice questions are sometimes called “discussions.” They start with a scenario which is followed by several, enumerated discussion points, giving them the appearance of multiple-choice questions. But the answers, if there are any, contain only explanations, not definitive answers.
Capturing multiple-choice questions and answers
Multiple-choice questions and answers are made up of a question or scenario followed by a list of possible answers. To indicate the constituent elements of the questions and answers for web-based testing systems add role attributes to flag the XML elements that contain the questions and answers. Also add xref elements to link the questions to their answers.
