Oxford University Press Text Capture Instructions

Positioning the partial translation in the XML

Inside the judgmentGrp block, capture the partial translation text as a new judgment element with a type attribute whose value is "partialTrans" or "partialOfficialTrans".

To determine whether a translated judgment is official or unofficial, check the filename of the supplied document against the OUP file naming conventions list.

The structure of the partially translated judgment closely reflects the structure of the judgment it is translated from. All the translated paragraphs have exactly the same hierarchical position as the paragraphs they have been translated from. However, the partial translation is missing many of the div[1-7,N] elements included in the original, where these have not been selected for translation.

Each p element within the partial translation should have exactly one indication of the source element, either on itself or on a div[1-7,N] ancestor.

To confirm the link between a translated paragraph and the original paragraph on which it is based, give every div[1-7,N] and p element used to enclose a translated section the attribute versionType="trans" and a versionOf attribute containing the id value of the element from which it is translated.

Capture the versionOf and versionType attributes at the lowest possible level. For example, if an entire div2 has been translated, the attributes should go on the div3 and/or p elements and not on the ancestor div2 element.

If a div[1-7,N] element has a title which has been translated, add the versionOf attribute at the p level of the title, and then at the div[1-7,N] level of the translated subsections.
