MPEPIL and MPECCL have special requirements for lower level structural elements and attributes, such as IDs, divisions of text, headings, cross-references, lists, and graphics.

Page numbers within each article are not required. Do not capture references in an article's table of contents to a page number.
Capture the date from the last line of the article in a versionDate attribute on the e element. Do not capture the date as part of the article text.
Capture Max Planck Encyclopedia keywords provided at handover within metaInfo.
Max Planck Encyclopedia articles include a headword which appears in bold capitals at the start of the article. Capture the headword inside the headword element, keeping the capitalisation as provided in the source document.
Capture the name of each author (shown below the headword in italics) within a separate nameGrp element. Capture each name component in an appropriate attribute. Do not capture the italics.
If the article has a table of contents, do not capture it as text but instead add an attribute makeTOC="y" to the e element. This indicates that a table of contents should be generated from the XML when the entry is displayed online.
Use nested div[1-7,N] tags to represent the structure, e.g. div1 for the top-level sections, each containing div2s for the second-level sections.
Capture headings for sections of the article within the titleGroup element.
Paragraph numbers appear in the margin of the input document, capture them in enumerator tags as the first child of the p element.
Within the source document, extracts are formatted as indented paragraphs. Content may be enclosed between double quotation marks, if so capture the quotation marks.
When ORCID URLs are provided beside author names in Max Planck content, they should be captured as a hyperlinked graphic using the ORCID icon.
For Max Planck Encyclopedia documents, unlike most OUP documents, do not mark up every instance of a reference.
Inside the bibliography section add div1 descendants for further end matter headings as provided in the manuscript.
