Oxford University Press Text Capture Instructions

Enumerators

Enumerators are used in numbered or bulleted lists, in numbered chapters, sections, or in paragraphs of text.

//enumerator

Capture the enumerator element as the first child of its parent element.

Enumerators come in many formats, e.g. arabic numerals, upper- and lower-case roman numerals, upper- and lower-case letters, and bullets of various shapes. There are also often multi-part enumerators, indicating the position the section occupies in the hierarchy (e.g. "A.2.19" for paragraph 19 in chapter 2 of part A).

  • Capture text preceding the number and used to label it (e.g. Table, Chapter, Figure, Part, Article, etc.) inside the enumerator element.
  • Capture punctuation following the number (e.g. full stop, colon, em-dash, etc.) inside the enumerator element.
  • If a number is placed in parentheses, e.g. '(a)', capture the parentheses inside the enumerator element.
