Oxford University Press Text Capture Instructions

Medicine family: Boxedmatter and emphasised text

Capture a box-structure as boxedMatter if it has a heading that contains the word Box or if it is a feature with role='FT#' that has been identified as a box structure, or if it is a floating box structure that cannot be appropriately captured as emphasized text. Capture other, anchored box-like structures as emphasised text using the role="emphasis" attribute.

Examples of emphasised text include:

  • Headings and paragraphs in a shaded background
  • Bulleted lists that have a shaded background
  • Text that is surrounded by a border

In some cases a box structure may be considered 'floating' or outside the division heading level making it difficult to capture as emphasized text. In these cases these may be marked up as boxedMatter.

Boxes are labelled as Box, for example, Box 25.1. 24 hour fluid requirements. Boxed may also be identified as Features in either the manifest or TCIs and should be captured as boxedMatter.

Tables are usually shaded in medical books. They don’t need to be captured with a role="emphasis".
