Blackstone's Police Service TCIs

Additional instructions for capturing content for Blackstone's Police Service using OxChapML DTD.

The content on Blackstone's Police Service will include the Blackstone's Investigator's series and the the Blackstone's Police Manuals (previously PMO). Both series will have content captured in either chaptered manuals or chaptered sections with questions and answers. Follow the Questions and Answers TCIs for capturing all question sections within these texts, or Q&A books, Mock Exams, or supplemental questions.

For each new edition, XML data will be sent back to the supplier and updated with the revisions sent in the manuscript. For Q&A content, new print editions will be accompanied by authors' notes on the questions from the previous year's print edition. If this workflow is not followed, please query with OUP before capturing from scratch.

  1. BPS: Division Levels

    Each chapter may be divided into sections (numbered n.n.n) and subsections (numbered n.n.n.n). The div1 and div2 elements (respectively) should be used for these.

  2. BPS: Quoted Legislation

    Captured quoted legislation, including PACE extracts, using extract. Mark class with value UKleg and subclass act.

  3. BPS: Features - Examples, Keynotes, and Offences

    Capture Examples, Keynotes, and Offences as Themed Features using role='FT#' on boxedMatter.

  4. BPS: Questions and Answers

    Capture multiple choice questions and answers following the Core guidances on Q&As. Questions are updated monthly and annually and may include questions from the Seargeants Mock Exam, the Investigators Q&As, and the Investigators Workbook.

  5. BPS: Excluded Content

    The Police Manuals apply mainly to the syllabus for the OSPRE® Part 1 examinations for Sergeants and Inspectors. Some parts of the content, however, will fall outside this syllabus, and this needs to be indicated in both the Manuals and the Q&As.

  6. BPS: Explanatory Text

    When PACE text or ecluded content is present in a chapter or section, that chunk may include a small paragraph of explanatory text indicating what the PACE materials mean. Capture this paragraph as a p with role='emphasis'.

  7. Cross References within PACE extract materials

    Ensure italicized content of the form 'paragraph n.n' within PACE extract material is internally cross-referenced to the content within the extract (or other PACE extracts within the title) to which it refers.
