Abbreviation Headwords

Capture headwords that are abbreviations using the attribute abbrev="y". (This is irrespective of the availability of an expansion for the abbreviation).

Capture punctuation around the abbreviation within the headword tags.


<headword abbrev="y">D.N.A.</headword>

<headword type="place" abbrev="y">USA</headword>

Abbreviation in headwords should use expansion tagging if the expansion appears within the abbreviations section at the front of the book, at the back of the book, or directly following the headword. In these cases the abbrev and abbrevExpansion tagging should be used.
