Oxford University Press Text Capture Instructions

Case procedural stage and previous stages

From the headnote, capture the stage within the judicial process that the case has reached, e.g., first instance, or appeal in one or more stage elements within the stageGrp block.

headNote/stageGrp/stage[@role]

Mark the stage element for the (current) procedural stage with the attribute role="current".

Capture previous stages in stage elements within the stageGrp block and mark them with the attribute role="previous".

Where there are multiple stages the field in the headnote lists them. Capture each of these stages in a separate stage element. Do not capture the bullet characters.

In each previous stage, include a bibItem in the stage element and capture the citation. Always include a bibItem element even where citation information is not available in the text and you cannot populate the attributes.
