Oxford University Press Text Capture Instructions

Section heading

Capture headings for sections of a document in titleGroup title elements.

//titleGroup/title/p

Ignore special formatting in the original document used to emphasize the heading (bold, italic, font size, full capitalization, etc) and only capture the text.

Capture titles for print that are full lower case in title case.

Capture typographic elements (bold, italic, etc.) in a heading only when it is necessary to emphasize part of the heading.

If the heading is numbered or otherwise enumerated, capture the enumerator in an enumerator element. Enumerators can consist of arabic or roman numerals, sequences of letters, chapter or appendix numbers, etc.

Titles should not contain xref elements, except for references to notes.

Capture a subtitle (indicated by a typecode) in a subtitle element, as a child of the titleGroup. For more information on subtitle typecodes see the individual pages on half title and title pages, parts, chapters, law monographs, and Readings (chaptered works).

If there is a colon separating the title and subtitle, do not capture it.

Capitalized heading in original document

Where full capitals are used to indicate a heading, capture the text as title case in the corresponding titleGroup element. Retain meaningful capitals such as abbreviations and capital roman numerals when capturing sentence case content.

ARTICLE II

<titleGroup>
<title><p>
<enumerator>Article II</enumerator>
</p>
</title>
</titleGroup>
The all-caps styling is ignored in the XML. Capital roman numerals remain as capital letters.
