Oxford University Press Text Capture Instructions

Classifying bibliography items

All bibItems must have a class and may also have a subClass.

REF reference: generic unclassified bibitem
REF:BK reference: book
REF:BKCH reference: chapter in book
REF:JART reference: journal article
REF:CONF reference: conference
REF:PER reference: periodical
REF:LINK reference: web links
REF:ARC reference: archives
REF:ART reference: artwork
REF:WORK reference: work

BibItems are split into four groups, core classes, additional classes, legal classes, and unclassified.

  • Always capture core class references unless OUP specifically tell you not to.
  • Only capture additional classes for products when specified.
  • Only capture legal class references for data captured for law publishing groups (Law-UK, Law-US or Law-India).
  • Unclassified should only be used if there is not a core class that can be identified (or if an additional reference has not been specified).

Consider the full context of the document to correctly identify the class and subClass attribute values. Capture the reference type in a class attribute value, and if required the sub-type in a subClass attribute value.
