Link type of a reference - linkType

References in law content must have a link type. In case report headnotes, the link type is provided. For other types of document, use their default value.

References in headnotes specify the purpose of the reference in the text as a link type. This information is added by headnote authors in curly brackets {}. Capture the link type information as a linkType attribute value in the bibItem. The link type must not appear as element content (PCDATA) in the XML file; delete the link type and curly brackets {} from the text.

The default value varies according to the type of document and the location of the reference.

  1. Link type for case report references

    In the headnote section of a case report, give references a linkType attribute value. Where the headnote does not specify a link type, and the reference is not a repeated reference, use the default value.

  2. Link type for award or judgment references

    For awards or judgments, the default link type is "mentioned in source document".

  3. Link type for instrument references

    References in legislation, treaties, and other documents using the OxLawML DTD have a default type of "mentioned". Within their metadata template, a reference may have a link type of "mentioned only in headnote".

  4. Link type for monograph and journal article references

    References in books or journal articles have a default type of "mentioned". Within their metadata template, a reference may have a link type of "mentioned only in headnote" or "discussed".

  5. Link type for repeated references

    For Law products, for subsequent instances of a reference use the sameTarget or sameTargetRoot attributes and repeat the linkType information along with other attributes.
