Bibliographies and references

Bibliographies consist of one or more lists of references or an essay of references, and generally appear in the front matter or end matter of a book, or at the end of a chapter or article. References must be identified, classed, and marked up with additional attributes.

    Capture bibliographies in a bibliography element within a bibliographyGroup.

  2. Bibliographic references and citations

    Capture bibliographic references in bibItem elements with the attributes needed to identify the components of a reference (e.g. the title, author, publication date, etc.). Only capture a full bibItem if it meets particular criteria.

  3. Legal bibliographic references and citations

    Legal bibliographic references and citations have additional requirements to the general instructions for capture.

  4. Editing existing references

    When existing XML is edited, bibItem references may be amended, inserted, or deleted in the original document. Where bibItems change their target, they must be replaced and receive a new ID. Where they are amended but refer to the same target they must retain their ID.
