Notes (endnotes, footnotes, marginal notes, block notes, and table notes)

Notes include endnotes, footnotes, marginal notes, block notes and table notes. Indicate the type of note using the type attribute of the note element.

Possible values for note type attribute

type value Description
endnote Used for notes that are listed at the end parts chapters and sections, as part of the normal flow of text.
footnote Used for notes that appear at the foot of pages, outside the normal flow of text.
blockNote Used for notes that appear between paragraphs, within the normal flow of text.
marginalNote Used for all notes occurring in the margin, outside the flow of text.

The values rightMarginalnote, leftMarginalnote, footMarginalnote are deprecated.

tableNote Used for notes that appear within tables.
other Used for notes that are not of the above types. Should be used for notes within figures and boxed matter.
