Medical Textbooks

All medical textbook chapters need an abstract. Capture abstracts provided by OUP in the chapter abstract element.

If the medical textbook is broken into parts capture the parts using the part element.

Represent numbered headings using the part or chapter elements. The chapter element can appear at different levels in the hierarchy in different sections of the book. Use chapter elements to represent the content within the lowest possible numbered heading and represent parent numbered headings using part elements.

    Some Medical Textbook chapters (and potentially Medical Textbook parts) begin with a summary. Capture this summary in the chapterFrontMatter element within a div1 role="summary" element.

  2. Personal Perspective (Medical Textbooks)

    Some Medical Textbook chapters ends with a Personal perspective section. Capture this section in a div1 role=”personal perspective” element within a miscMatter element.

  3. Essentials (Medical Textbooks)

    Some medical textbooks, such as the Oxford Textbook of Medicine, begin each chapter with an Essentials section. Capture this section in the chapterFrontMatter element within a div1 role="essentials" element.
