Subsidiary name |
Be aware of the context that the name is written in. Do not capture content in a name group
that specifies a person’s origin when it is not part of the person’s name or title. For example, a locative is
always preceded by a forename like Peter of Spain and not a foreTitle like Earl of Shaftesbury.
If a person's generation is at the start of the name (e.g.
), capture the generation in the foreTitle attribute instead.
Use the subsidiaryName attribute to capture part of a name that is descriptive rather than a true name, for example:
- the Great
- the Cynic
- the Elder
- the Areopagite
- the Blind
- Kobo Daishi
- Lao Tzu
- Lieh Tzu
- Mo Tzu
- the Apostate
- Judaeus
- the Dialectician
Use the subsidiaryName attribute to capture locatives that are indications of a person’s origin introduced with of, for example:
- of Rome
- of Spain
- of France
- of England
- of Lancashire
Use the subsidiaryName attribute to capture the suffix in names that end with a suffix. For example:
- Jr.
- Junior
- Sr.
- the First
- the Second
- the Third
- I
- II
- III
- IV
- V
