Law bibItems: References to the document itself

In the headnote of a case report or legislative document, one bibItem (within the citeGrp element of the headnote) refers to the document itself (referred to as the original citation).

Do not capture other references to the document itself. This means that if the document has an OUP ID citation, it appears only in the idnumber attribute of the original citation.

The set of allowed values of the class attribute in such documents is therefore limited in these instances:

  • In a case report headnote, the only allowed value of the class attribute is case-ref.

The bibItemTitle in this instance must be at the start of the bibItem.

In the bibItem representing the Citations field of a case report, do not italicize party names.

  • In a legislative document headnote, the allowed values of the class attribute are:

    • intinstr
    • instRules
    • EUleg
    • forDom
    • UKleg
    • USleg
    • UNdoc
