BC/BCE dates

Capture BC (or BCE) and AD (or CE) dates in ISO 8601 date format.

ISO 8601 uses a year 0000 for the year 1 BC/BCE. For earlier years the ISO year value is negative (see table below).

Dates earlier than 9999 BC (or BCE) contain a year which contains five digits or more. This should be represented accurately within the ISO date, and should be negative (see table below for examples).
