Theses references must be captured with class='thesis'.

The following words may be used to identify this type of reference:

Always present:

  • "thesis" or "dissertation"

Sometimes present, an indication of the academic qualification for which the thesis was submitted, e.g.:

  • M.Sc.
  • Ph.D.
  • D.Phil.

In OBO these citations are called out in the manuscript by [class:thesis-ma] and [class:thesis-phd]

A thesis reference usually contains components corresponding to the attributes of bibItem listed in the table below:

Attribute Description
author The author of the thesis.
class thesis
date The date of the thesis.
dateEnd End date of a range starting in the date field
idnumber Any additional Identifying number of work
place Location work was published
publisher Entity responsible for publishing the work
subclass Use the subClass attribute to indicate whether reference is to a thesis or dissertation.
