Capturing images for decisions
For decisions, provide images in two sizes and place in two separate folders. Use the same file name, format and extension for both versions of each image.
-
Extract images from the PDF or Word document, scanning them if necessary.
The most important criterion for scanning is that the image is clear and any text legible.
Save the image in its original size as follows:
- For photographs and artwork which is not a map, chart or graph optimize as 72 dpi 8-bit JPEG.
- For maps, charts and graphs (any images which contain text) optimize as a 72 dpi 8-bit GIF (1-bit GIF for black-and-white images), 89a non-interlaced format.
- Name each image file with the value of the id attribute of the graphic element.
- Rotate images to the correct orientation.
-
Place the full size images in a
figuressubfolder. -
Create thumbnails.
For portrait orientation, capture 50px wide by 75px high.
For landscape orientation, capture 75px wide by 50px high. This requires cropping of some images.
