OCW: Oxford Constitutions Online TCIs

Additional information for capturing the Oxford Constitutions Online product (OCW) products to their relevant DTDs, such as OxLawML DTD, the OxChapML DTD and the OxStructML DTD.

The OUP generally provide source documents for the OCW as MS Word documents for frontlist titles, and HTML for backlist . We deliver sets of documents with an MS Excel headnote file containing additional metadata for each document in the set.

Each headnote contains information for a particular jurisdiction. Each workbook contains separate worksheets for the commentary and instrument documents. Rows in the worksheet denote XML deliverables, and columns denote metadata fields.

The layout of the text may vary in terms of formatting used to distinguish headings and indentation used to distinguish sub-sections. Do not preserve this variation. Apply the same structural markup no matter what visual cues are used in the source document to present the structure.

Capture the title and full text of the document, together with any introductory text specific to the document, the footnotes, the appendices, and the schedules.

  1. OCW document identifiers (OUP ID)

    For OCW, OUP provide an OUP ID (document ID) in the MS Excel headnote file. Capture this in the root metadata (regId or citId attribute) for the product

    The name of files can be derived from the documentID.

    Populate the version information group of elements from the headnote.

    OUP use the 3rd worksheet in the headnote spreadsheet to list documents that you need to capture as bibItem elements but that are difficult to identify because, for instance, the documents are outside of the headnote jurisdiction.

  6. OCW Originating Jurisdiction

    The jurisdiction group of elements contain the country and/or originating body the instrument originated from (the Originating Jurisdiction).

  7. OCW Related or Applicable Jurisdictions field

    The jurisdiction group of elements contain countries to which the instrument or commentary is related.

  8. OCW original citations

    The original citation is the bibItem element that describes the instrument.

  9. OCW copyright notices

    Capture all copyright notices using the copyright symbol or appropriate character entity.

  11. OCW correct capture of numbered paragraphs and lists

    Numbered lists are indented, numbered paragraphs are not. Do not capture numbered lists as numbered paragraphs.

  12. OCW editorial footnotes

    Editorial commentary footnotes in OCW documents are referred to using a call out from a number in square brackets. Capture them in a noteGroup element using attribute role="editorialNotes".

  13. OCW document notes

    Where notes are part of the document itself, they are normally printed in-line after the paragraph to which they pertain. Capture these notes as paragraphs within the flow of normal text as a paragraph p element with attribute role="officialNote".

  14. OCW Instruments

    Constitutional instruments include constitution documents (for example the Constitution of the United States of America), constitutional amendments, agreements, declarations, UN regulations and legal Acts. Capture OCW instruments to the OxLawML DTD.

  15. OCW Commentaries

    Capture OCW commentaries to the OxStructML DTD.

  16. OCW Monographs

    Capture OCW monographs to the standard for Law Monographs and Core Chaptered Works.
