File names

Use file naming guidelines for all content deliverables. Specific product instructions for file naming override the ones documented here.

In each of the formats described below, ProductCode should match the productID value used at the start of element identifiers.

Call-outs to image and other media files in the XML (e.g. using the graphic element) should contain only the name of the image file. In the case where there are multiple versions of an image, use the name of the main version.

  1. Zip and XML files

    Deliver ZIP archives and XML files with file names that include just the productID and documentID (e.g. ISBN) separated by a hyphen.

  2. Image file names

    Instructions for the production of image files, formats and DPI, colour, etc have been moved out of the TCIs as of June 2019.

  3. PDFs

    Keep PDFs in a subfolder pdf/ relative to the XML.

  4. Other media (video, audio, etc) file naming

    Name media appropriately for the type of the file that it is (video, audio, or other) and store them in a media/ subfolder relative to the XML file.
