Abbreviations and Expansions

Capture abbreviations using the abbrev element. Capture expanded abbreviations using the abbrevExpansion element.

and

//abbrevExpansion

The ref attribute should match up with the correct expansion abbrevExpansion id of the abbreviation captured (commonly found in the “List of Abbreviations” found in the front area of the book).

These are mainly found in the “List of Abbreviations” section at the front of the book. Assign a unique id value to every expansion as an abbreviation can only reference one expansion.

Where you find abbreviations and expansions within the entry content also capture them in this way. Always reference the expansion from the abbreviation.
