Root elements and common content types

The DOCTYPE declaration specifies a root element. Capture manuscripts by following the DOCTYPE declaration with the appropriate root element.

The root elements which may be supplied to OUP are:

Book root element
For Chaptered works and A-Z Reference Works, use the book element as the root node when you create complete titles. This allows for the front content, end content, and letter sets.
Single-article root element
Capture single articles with e as the root element with the appropriate metadata information to the OxEncyclML DTD.
Single letter-set or entry capture (A-Z Reference Works)
If you are capturing a single letter for inclusion in a larger work, set the root element to part or e. You can then quality check chunks of data before compiling the full title.
Case root element (Law Reports)
The root element for capturing a case report. The case element contains the headnote (headNote) and decision (judgmentGrp).
Regulations or instruments regGroup root element
Capture OxLawML instruments using the regGroup root element.
Commentary document root element
Capture OxStructML commentaries in the document root element.
Primary Source Documents in OISO
Capture Primary Source Documents for the ORC products to the OxStructML DTD.
Proofing stage root elements
For larger texts such as Textbooks (i.e. the Oxford Textbook of Medicine (OTM) and European Society of Cardiology medical textbook (ESC)), OUP may grant permission for you to return XML files where the root element is chapter, part, or section at the proofs stage.
