Oxford University Press Text Capture Instructions

Chapter

The basic subdivision of an OxChapML document is the chapter. The extent of a chapter is normally clearly identifiable, either from a labelled number ("Chapter 1"), from the book's table of contents, or from specific instructions for the data set. Capture chapters with the chapter element.

Sometimes chapters might be labelled Section or Part. Take care that these chapters are not captured as part.

If it is not clear where to place the chapter elements, please contact OUP.

Chapters are subdivided using the div1, div2 ... divN elements.

Chapters may be grouped into parts or sections, but can also occur outside of parts and sections. For example, the introduction to a book may occur as a chapter before the start of the first part.
