Oxford University Press Text Capture Instructions

Types of text (OFSO)

For OFSO, to differentiate original text from editorial text, capture the div[1-7,N], displayText, or span element with a role attribute value of authentic or editorial.

HE distinguishes text written by an original author (i.e. the text of the work) from that written by the editor of the scholarly edition (introduction, notes, etc.)

For example:

  • in a collection of letters or poems, each individual item may have editorial text preceding and/or following the original text;
  • a chapter of a book may have an editorial introduction
