OBO bibliographic lists, groups and citations

Capture each bibliographic list using a bibList list in a p element. Capture each item in the list using bibItemGroup. Capture the citation for the group in a bibItem element.

Capture bibliographic items (citations) within bibItem elements.

Bibliographic items are usually followed by an annotation, capture the annotation using p within bibItemGroup.

Sub-topics

  1. ISBNs and DOIs called out in OBO bibliographic items

    The OUP editor calls out ISBN and DOI values in bibliographic items using square brackets. Use the value of these called out items for attributes in the bibliography and remove the values from the text. Remove the square brackets.

  2. OBO dates in bibliographic items

    In some citations portions of the date of the work are captured in different areas of the citation. Even though this may be the case, if a citation has a month and a year capture them together in ISO format.

  3. OBO capture inline formatting in bibliographic items

    Include inline styling markup in citation text. For example, use <i>Evidence-based practice in social work</i> for an italicized title.

  4. OBO citations: Chicago Humanities and Chicago Scientific

    OBO manuscripts use two citation styles, Chicago Humanities and Chicago Scientific based on the content of the entry.

  5. OBO omit volume attribute in multi-volume citations

    When capturing a citation for a multi-volume work, do not use the vol attribute.

  6. OBO names in bibliographic items

    Capture all names in surname, forename order regardless of how they appear in the citation itself except where the copy editor has underlined the main name or the name is non-invertable.

  7. OBO use name groups in bibliographic items

    In references, within the bibItem, capture names of authors with their titles in a nameGrp group. The attributes of this element pick out the components of the name and the role of the person.

  8. OBO multiple authors in bibliographic items

    References sometimes have more than one author or part authors. Capture all the authors names, separated by a pipe symbol | in the author or partAuthor attributes of bibItem.
