Oxford University Press Text Capture Instructions

Law bibItems: References to provisions of a legislative document - sectRef

Where a reference is to a specific provision of a legislative document (international instrument, rules of court, EU legislation, foreign domestic legislation, UK legislation or US legislation) you must capture a sectRef attribute.

To support linking of legislative provisions the sectRef attribute value must be given a named indicator, which may be a contraction or expansion of the actual text.

The indicator is followed by a space only when it is not an abbreviation (i.e. Part rule).

References within the same numbered section to different provisions of an instrument must each be marked up.

If the reference is to a subsection, the sectRef attribute value must include the value of the parent section or paragraph, check the preceding text for the correct value.

Where references are made to a range of provisions, set the sectRef value as the start of the range.

Only capture the values indicated in the table below. If there is no appropriate value, capture the bibItem as pointing to a separate document; for example the term "protocol" does not refer to a provision but to a separate document (see Protocol).
