About OUP BITS TCIs

Oxford University Press (OUP) maintain these Text Capture Instructions (TCIs) to assist in the capture of books and book parts to XML.

This document provides guidance on the capture of books and book parts in the BITS data model.

This document is intended to convey general guidelines, not in-depth instructions for any given title. It is also not intended to be a comprehensive guide to the BITS data model. A separate tag library for BITS is available online.

Some metadata structures described in this document are not required in all BITS XML. If your handover materials do not contain a value for a particular metadata field, do not capture it.

  1. XPath indicators

    XPath statements in these instructions indicate the context(s) in which the structure may be captured.

  2. TCIs use simplified examples

    Examples given in these TCIs may be simplified to improve understanding. To avoid errors, use the appropriate example for each structure and only ever copy the structures that are the focus of the example.

  3. Differences from OxChapML instructions

    Certain pages from a print book may be generated automatically using metadata values.
