Oxford University Press BITS Typecodes

Reading

A reading is a full extract of a work, often interspersed with commentary containing a Headnote.

Readings may occur in various structures: Displayed Materials, Section, or Chapter. Use Reading as a suffix typecode on one of these structures wherever readings occur.

A Reading is distinct from Extract, which is a more general type used for structured extracts of primary source content. While both may be primary source and be extracts, readings are a particular type that needs particular styling. Readings also often contain commentary or a Headnote, and are very particular to the HE group (though may be used by other groups if needed as a higher level distinction for primary source above just ‘Extract’).

NOTE: Exclude from automated pre-edit changes.
