The alphabetical separator element, indicating a transition between alphabetical sections within an index.

Description

This element is allowed to be empty.

The primary purpose of the element is to signal the position of an alphabetical break in the index.

Any content which is to appear at the point of the break—e.g. an initial letter or a graphical symbol—should be placed within this element.

This element is usually used as an empty element.
